About Oware Heritage Foundation
We are a Ghana-based non-governmental organization dedicated to holistic, compassionate support for road accident victims and their families — and to building the accountability that makes Ghana’s roads safer for everyone.
OUR STORY
Oware Heritage Foundation was founded to answer a simple but urgent question: who stands with a family in the hours and days after a road accident changes everything?
Across Ghana, road accidents don’t just end in a moment on a highway — they ripple outward into households that suddenly face medical costs, lost income, grief, and an uncertain road to recovery, often with little support and few places to turn. We exist to close that gap: providing direct, compassionate support to victims and their families, while working at a systemic level to hold Ghana’s road safety infrastructure accountable.
Our work spans two directions that reinforce each other. On one side, we support the people already affected — emotionally, practically, and materially. On the other, we advocate for the education, policy, and enforcement changes that prevent the next accident from happening. We believe lasting change requires both.
Board Members

Derek (Sage) Kwesi Okai
Derek Okai is a Creative Marketer and Designer with over six years of experience helping businesses, nonprofits, advocacy organizations, and personal brands communicate their value through storytelling, design, and digital transformation. He is the creator of the Creativemark Framework, which integrates value, content, design, strategy, and technology to build impactful brands.
As Digital Media Officer at the Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP), Derek simplifies complex energy and governance issues into accessible content that informs and engages the public. He also writes and speaks on branding, strategic communication, and AI in marketing.
Derek holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Russian from the University of Ghana and has completed marketing-related courses, including Brand Management: Aligning Business, Brand and Behaviour (London Business School), The Strategy of Content Marketing (University of California, Davis), and Business Made Simple (StoryBrand by Donald Miller).
Nana Aba Howard
Nana Aba Howard is an Associate Chartered Accountant and Payment Analyst with over four years of professional experience across accounting, financial operations, digital business analytics, and customer service. She has developed expertise in financial reporting, account reconciliations, payment operations, and process improvement across public and private sector organizations. Nana Aba is passionate about accountability, continuous learning, and using her skills to support effective decision making and sustainable growth. As a Board Member, she brings strong analytical, financial, and organizational skills, together with a collaborative approach and commitment to making a meaningful contribution to the Foundation’s mission and long-term impact.
Phoebe A. Dadzie
Phoebe A. Dadzie brings both legal expertise and personal conviction to the foundation’s mission. She is a lawyer, called to the Ghanaian bar, with a background in journalism, and currently serves as Legal & Compliance officer at a leading payment service provider, where she works to ensure regulatory integrity and sound governance in a fast-evolving industry.
Phoebe’s commitment to road safety is deeply personal. Her mother was involved in a road accident in which another person lost their life — an experience that left a lasting impression on her and shaped her belief in the importance of not only supporting victims and their families through the aftermath of such tragedies, but also promoting a culture of safety on our roads.
She brings this blend of professional rigour, a commitment to accountability and responsible decision-making, and personal empathy to her work with the board.
Dr. Samson Obed Appiah
Dr. Samson Obed Appiah is currently a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Sociology at the University of Ghana, Legon, where he has taught for the past ten years. At the undergraduate level, he teaches Introductory Sociology, Diversity of Peoples and Cultures, and Industrial Sociology, while at the graduate level, he teaches Sociology of Industrial Organizations and Personnel/Human Resource Management in Industrial Organizations. He has published over 15 articles in peer-reviewed journals internationally. His research interests include Occupational Health and Safety among informal small-scale workers, Youth Entrepreneurship and Self-employment Experiences, Gender and Development, and Disability. His core area of specialization and research is workplace health and safety, with a particular focus on the incidence of accidents among formal and informal workers. His research interests and publications in occupational health and safety align closely with the Oware Heritage Foundation Board’s core interests in promoting road-user safety, reducing road accidents, and providing support to victims of road accidents.

Precious Owusu-Ware
Executive Director & Founder
Precious Owusu-Ware is the Founder and Executive Director of Oware Heritage Foundation, a Ghana-based non-governmental organization dedicated to providing holistic, compassionate support to road accident victims and their families while promoting national road-safety accountability through education, targeted advocacy, and transparent community action. Her passion for this work is deeply personal—she is a survivor of a fatal road accident and continues to live with its aftermath. Beyond the physical consequences, road crashes can leave lasting emotional trauma, grief, financial hardship, disability, loss of income, and profound changes in family life. This lived experience fuels her commitment to ensuring that survivors and families are not forgotten after the headlines fade. She brings valuable experience working with and serving as a board member of nonprofit organizations in both Ghana and Canada, alongside experience in leadership, community development, stakeholder engagement, and government environments. Through these experiences, she continues to build partnerships and advocate for safer roads, stronger accountability, and communities where prevention is valued as much as response. At the heart of her work is a simple but important question: If someone is waiting for all of us to get home safely, shouldn’t our roads and those responsible for them do their part too?
Jeremy Y. Olympio
Products Manager
Jeremy Y. Olympio is a Project Coordinator and Development Practitioner with experience in programme management, community development, advocacy, stakeholder engagement, and team collaboration. His background brings together professional experience and academic training in Theatre Arts, Arts and Culture, and Teaching and Learning in Higher Education. He previously served as a Programme Manager at m360, where he was involved in road safety advocacy, programme coordination, community engagement, and working with teams and stakeholders to deliver initiatives focused on promoting safer communities. He has also been involved in training, research, educational, and community-based initiatives, giving him a practical understanding of project planning, implementation, and working with people from diverse backgrounds. Jeremy is passionate about projects that connect people, ideas, and resources to address community needs and create meaningful impact. His strengths include project coordination, teamwork, stakeholder engagement, research, training, communication, and community outreach. As Projects Manager at Oware Heritage Foundation, he brings together his experience in advocacy, programme coordination, community engagement, and research to support the Foundation’s efforts to promote road safety awareness and contribute to safer and more responsible communities.
